How to ship your fork
Step 1: Take fork off your bike
Here is a video on how to remove the suspensions off your bike.
Step 2: Clean your fork!
A dirty fork is a dirty mechanic! Fully clean your fork making sure you wipe all the grease off from your steerer tube and dropouts and take all the dirt off of the small crevices in your fork, like the back of the crown, the inside of the steerer tube and around the dropouts.
Step 3: Remove any small and removable parts.
Removing all the unnecessary parts like: Cable guide, Brake mounting hardware, headset bearings and spacers or Fender on your fork will allow you to make sure you're not losing parts in transport or while your fork is getting service!
Step 4: Wrap it up!
Wrap your fork up with what you have available that makes sense to ship a possibly oily bike part.(don’t wrap it up with your grandma's favorite scarf, it might not return or if it does it might not be pristine!
The best way to do so is using foam or bubble wrap sheets and rolling the fork tightly in it, covering the parts you don’t want to get scratched or damaged in shipping, securing everything with tape afterwards.
Step 5: Box it up!
Place the wrapped fork in the box of your choice. We recommend using a box that is designed to hold a fork that you can find at your local bike shop or by purchasing a new fork!
If you can’t find a fork specific box, you can either find a sturdy box of the right size or make your own but just make sure that it is sturdy enough to protect your precious cargo and well sealed so you don’t end up having half your fork sticking out in transport!
Step 6: Fill the box up!
You can get creative in this process, anything soft to take up space in the box works really well. Newspaper, old rags (not too dirty please ;)), packing peanuts, popcorn (un-buttered please) etc. will do the job!
Step 7: Seal it up!
Using packing tape (Painter tape’s adhesive is too weak and won't stick properly), tightly seal the box to make sure everything inside is secure and ensure it doesn’t get torn open in transport. (Don't be cheap on tape, you're never too sure how shippers are going to treat your package!)
Step 8: Write your work order number on the box.
Using a dark marker, write your work order number on the box, making sure it’s big enough to be read even if the box gets damaged and dirtied!
Step 9: Tag the box
If you chose the pickup option, just write CANPAR on the box with that same marker and the shipper will show up with the tag!
If you chose to ship it yourself, print your tag and stick it on the outside of the box. (Not on your W/O number ;) )
Step 10: SHIP IT!
If you selected The pickup option, put the box next to your front door and a Canpar driver will come with a tag and pick it up!
If you chose to ship it yourself, drop it off to your chosen shipping carrier!
